The silence of ENERGY, the breath of the EARTH

- FEBRUARY 2008 -

As last February, this year too we're happy to point out an important initiative about energy saving. An Italian initiative, but of global significance, about a topic of great importance, and in our opinion (and not only ours) vital.

For the fourth year, the famous Italian radio program Caterpillar, broadcasted on Radio2, launches the "M'illumino di meno" campaign, an international energy saving day, sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment, Protection of Land and Sea, and the Ministry of Agricultural.

What can we do to take part to it? It's very simple: on February 15, from 6 to 7:30 pm, we are asked to reduce to the minimum our energy use, to switch off all the electrical devices we don't need and obviously avoid using the superfluous ones!

Lights, computer, radio, television, household appliances and any other electrical devices are part and parcel of our daily life, sometimes necessary, some others not. Reducing our energy impact is possible, and this initiative, like many others organized in other parts of the world, aims at making us understand that a more sustainable life is attainable, without renouncing to the comforts we are used to. A fight against energy waste and, why not, to our addiction to all kinds of comforts. Just think about it for a sec: how many times we leave the lights on in the room we have left and where we won't come back until ten minutes or even more, only because of laziness? Small and simple acts we are not even conscious of, because of indolence or because thousands of other thoughts occupy our mind. Small and simple acts that can make a difference and that our children will thank us for.

Taking part to this initiative doesn't want and must not be an exception, nor this day be special. It's a constant commitment of each of us to reach a goal that is good for the world and for ourselves as well.

We say it again this year: a different world is possible.

Switch off the lights, and on the hearts.

Marta
