Flash fiction n°4: "Jump!"
Marta wrote:
The light-hearted attitude of a sixteen-year-old girl, the headphones in her ears, the faraway look which would have preferred to lose itself in another dimension, in another world.
The English grammar book on her knees, a quick revision of the irregular verbs during the trip with the bus towards the school.
The gray landscape of that morning of late January was passing her by with the usual sluggishness. The notes of the song almost blended with the light rain outside, with the voices inside.
She was happy. She felt all the happiness that a CD and many dreams could convey to a sixteen-year-old girl.
The firm attitude of a twenty-four-year-old girl, a shoulder bag, a free afternoon after working for an entire morning on her degree thesis.
She went into a downtown record store, she looked around among the new releases, then she went to the floor below, towards the pop-rock division. Letter D, new release. She took the CD in her hands, read the title, observed the cover and then decided to buy it.
She paid and went out the store. Late January, light rain pouring down.
She smiled. She felt a bit like those mornings of a few years ago, sat near the window of the bus which was taking her to school, with the headphones in her ears.
Happy. With still many goals she wanted to reach. With a life which was asking her to be fully lived.
