Flash fiction n°10: "Walls"

Accept her looks, her smiles, her hands holding yours. Accept the love the person before you is giving you.

He closed the door behind himself, the cold of the doorknob ran through his hand, then through his arm, reaching his heart, pervading every single fibre of his body.

Wonder when you'll stop fleeing.

He went away, from her, from himself. Everything he wanted was staying, embrace her, but every time he got closer the river in flood of his fears swept him away, bringing him further and further, from himself, from her.

Wonder when you'll be able to tell her how much you love her.

Accept his second thoughts, his excuses, his fears. Accept the love he isn't able to give you.

She leaned against the door that had just closed behind her, trying in vane to find in the wood some of the warmth he couldn't give her.

Wonder how long you'll go on bearing this silence.

She closed her eyes, trying to stop the tears. She would never go beyond that imaginary line that divided them, build a bridge and reach him, every time the current would destroy it and water swallow it up. But if it was him, if he built it…

Wonder when you'll stop waiting for him.
